Social Deeds and Prestige Emotes by - July 3, 2007

Like other MMORPGs, The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar comes with a range of social emotes. If you’re clueless as to what emotes are, they are commands that are entered on the chat line beginning with the symbol “/”.

As its name suggests, emotes can be used to show a player’s emotion. The root word of the term MMORPG is “role-play,” and showing emotion is one way of doing so. Besides, there’s really no other way to tell how a person feels just by looking at what he tells you in chat, unless he (or she) tells you directly that he’s majorly pissed. You can also use voice chat, but not everyone does.

There’s a long list of emotes that you can use from the outset, but as you inhabit virtual Middle-earth for longer periods, you’ll notice that some that you witness from other players aren’t in the list. How is this possible?

You see, these emotes are rewards that you can earn, but it’s not as simple as completing quests or slaying X number of creatures. Below is a list of social deeds and titles that you can earn in LOTRO. Mind you, not all the titles come from emotes—some are achievements that are rewarded when one reaches levels without getting defeated in battle.

Get ready to spend long hours in Middle-earth because you’ll need them to accomplish these deeds.

The Wary
How to get it: All you have to do is reach level 5 without getting yourself killed. This is easy, considering that the first 5 levels involve the easy intro tutorial where experience is rewarded by talking to people, fetching items, or fighting weak monsters.
Your reward: A title called The Wary.

The Undefeated
How to get it: To gain this title, you’ll need to reach level 10 without being defeated in battle. It’s not so easy this time around because as you increase levels, the enemies can get trickier. One “safer” (not necessarily better) way to reach level 10 is to powerlevel with a fellowship. You’ll reach level 10 and be Undefeated in no time.
Your reward: A title called The Undefeated.

The Indomitable
How to get it: You need to reach level 14 without ever falling in battle. Again, it’s better to play and wander Middle-earth in fellowships than soloing.
Your reward: A title called The Indomitable.

The Unscathed
How to get it: If you can reach level 17 without dying, then you really are unscathed. Notice how the increment of levels gets smaller as you get more powerful? That means staying alive gets more difficult.
Your reward: A title called The Unscathed.

The Undying
How to get it: This would be the last of the titles awarded for not being defeated in battle. All you have to do is reach level 20 to do it. Is this possible? Of course, but it would take a combination of a good fellowship and luck.
Your reward: A title called The Undying.

Fire-Breather

How to get it:
All you need to do is receive 100 /cheer emotes. Here’s the tricky part—this can only be incremented five times per day. That means, if you do get five /cheers in a day, it would take 20 days to get Fire-Breather.
Your reward: The /firebreath emote.

Hero
How to get it:
You must receive a total of 100 /bow emotes, and this can only be incremented five times a day. Like Fire-Breather, if you do reach the daily limit, it will take you 20 days total. Good luck on reaching the limit for 20 straight days though.
Your reward:
The /heropose emote.

Juggler
How to get it: The requirement is a bit bigger this time. You have to receive a whopping 200 /laugh emotes. Like the other emotes, you’re limited to five increments per day. This means you need to reach the daily limit for a total of 40 times.
Your reward: The /juggle emote.

Swordsalute
How to get it: You have to receive 100 /salute emotes. This can only incremented five times per day.
Your reward: The /swordsalute emote.

The Adorable
How to get it: You’ll have to earn 100 /hug emotes on this one. Your friends and kinsmen must really love you if they’re willing to give you a virtual hug in public. Again, this can be incremented five times per day.
Your reward: No emote rewards for this one. You’ll get The Adorable title. Scary you.

The Alluring

How to get it:
You have to earn 100 /flirt emotes. As always, it comes with a five per day limit.
Your reward:
Another title called The Alluring. You’ll be the heartthrob of Middle-earth.

The Befuddling
How to get it:
You must earn 100 /confused emotes. There’s a five per day limit, so getting more in one day won’t count.
Your reward:
You get a title called The Befuddling.

The Beloved

How to get it:
Get this—you need to get 100 /kiss emotes. This can be incremented five times per day.
Your reward:
You get a title called The Beloved.

The Dull
How to get it: Wow, you must be really boring if you do get The Dull without trying to earn it. You need to get 100 /bored emotes. Yes, there is a five per day limit as well.
Your reward: You get a title called The Dull. I can’t say it’s a reward, but you do get the title whether you like it or not. Using it is up to you.

The Harassed
How to get it:
You have to receive 100 /beg emotes, which can only be incremented five times per day. You’re probably a high-level character with a lot of über gear if you get this title.
Your reward:
You get a title called The Harassed. How apt.

The Helpful
How to get it:
You must receive 100 /thank emotes, and you’re limited to receiving up to five per day.
Your reward:
You get a title called The Helpful. This title is probably related to The Harassed. After being pestered for good gear, you get thanked. Then again, you can just ask your friends to give you the recommended number of emotes daily.

The Infuriating
How to get it:
The straight-up way of getting this is perhaps being a troll—no, not in the Tolkien sense but in the online sense. Being a troll is probably the best way to reach the 100 /angry emotes, and you’ll likely reach the daily limit of five.
Your reward:
You earn the title called The Infuriating.

The Insulted
How to get it: Quite tougher than the other ones. Why? You need to get 200 /rude emotes. If you have The Infuriating title, it probably won’t be long before you get this one. Remember, this can only be incremented five times per day.
Your reward: A title called The Insulted.

The Intimidating
How to get it:
Now this is a title that everyone probably likes to have for bragging rights. It’s more forgiving on the requirements: receive /40 cower emotes. The tradeoff is you have a two per day limit. This means you’ll need to reach the limit 20 times to earn this.
Your reward:
You earn the title called The Intimidating. It’s quite badass so start sending your friends /beg to ask for your /cower.

The Ridiculed
How to get it: You have to be a total loser to get it, because by then, you would have accumulated 100 /mock emotes. Like the others, there’s a five per day limit.
Your reward: You get the title The Ridiculed.

The Victorious

How to get it:
You have to receive a total of 40 /surrender emotes. Like The Intimidating title, you’re limited to getting these types of emotes twice per day.
Your reward:
Another badass title called The Victorious.

You may have to ask the help of your kinsmen, friends, and fellowship members in giving you emotes and reaching the daily limit because unfortunately, many MMORPG players take emotes for granted. Ask them to give you emotes whenever they can so that you can earn the unique emotes and gain more titles. Do give the emotes they ask for in return. Enjoy playing!
